Can you elaborate a little? This may be interesting from a gitlab infrastructure point-of-view.

The pre-commit job only runs on the changes to be merged (in order not to annoy about unrelated bugs). This is only possible if the CI can see all relevant revisions.

... and by default, the Gitlab CI does a shallow copy that only contains the last 20 commits.
